So pretty much the drive back from Tucson sucked. We left Tucson at around 1 and were making some pretty good time until we hit the reservation. To make a long story short we got stuck behind an accident for 3 hours. It was awful. After that we started cruising again and sure enough the roads turn to an ice rink and Trevor slides off the road into a ditch. Luckily everyone was ok and his car wasn't damaged. He was even able to drive out of the ditch. It was pretty wild. Our drive back ended up taking us 13 hours. It was ridiculous. I think I have some more pictures from our last days in Tucson but I dunno. Today I colored my single speed worlds entry form. It was pretty awesome. I felt like an 8 year old and my coloring abilities reflected the skills of a 5 year old. Im out peace

We have settled into a pretty nice routine down here in Tucson. We pretty much just wake up, eat breakfast, go on a fatty ride, eat more food, relax, eat some more food, relax some more and sleep. I dig it. Its going to be pretty brutal to go back to cold ass Durango but Im looking forward to it. I'll be done with base and hopefully the snow will be real good for some skiing. New years was pretty fun even though we didn't do too much exciting. We just enjoyed some beverages and popped bottles champagne at midnight. It would have been more fun back in Durango but it was still a good time.

At one point Trevor and Soller got in a epic wrestling match resulting in Kevin eating a shoe. It was entertaining. Yesterday we rode Mt Lemon wich was pretty sweet. Its not often that you can find a 30 mile climb to pedal your bike up. Here are some pictures from Lemon.

Tucson has been really nice lately. It been really warm and we have been doing a ton of riding. The past two days have been the sickest days of riding. We have been tagging along with the Colorado Premier Training base camp and its been great. One of the highlights of the past two days was being able to ride with Tour de France participant Danny Pate. He's a really chill dude and fun to ride with. Today we are taking an easier day because we have ridden 15 hours in the past 3 days. We will probably just cruise out towards Collossal Caves. We have been doing pretty much nothing but riding and relaxing. Our post ride activities usually consist of playing uno and drinking beer. Its a pretty good combo. Well its been a while since I last updated this thing. Right now im down in Tucson for three weeks to get my suffer on. Its pretty sweet. We went on a sick ride today and got in over 5 hours. Sweet! It feels real good to be training again. I took a long time off after mtb season and pretty much did nothing. It was nice but Im definitely back into bike mode. Man was I suffering this morning. I had to wake up all early and go teach bike camp and we decided to ride Animas Mountain of all places. Ouch. The night before we had ourselves an intense game of nerf basketball and it got intense. Im surprised there weren't and injuries. Check out the action shots.

I raced the Crested Butte Mountain States Cup last weekend. It went Awful. I had a good start and lead for the first 10ish minutes and then my chest exploded. It hurt bad. I could taste blood in my mouth and my whole chest burned really bad and I was forced to pull over and try to catch my breath. I think it was asthma related because I have a history of exercise induced asthma and when I got back to the car I took a hit of Trevor's inhaler and within seconds I could breathe alot better. Overall the weekend was fun. Me and trevor entered a beanbag throwing contest and won some sick prizes and then I won a a sick set of xt hydraulic disc brakes. It was sick! and to top it off there was free beer.

Tomorrow me and Trevor are packing up and heading down to Sandy, Utah for the Deer Valley NORBA. Its gunna be sweeeeeet. Well im sufferin and feel like watching a movie so Im OUT.

Well not much has been going on lately. I finally built up my new carbon anthem and I love it. It rides really smooth. I cant wait to race it out east.

In other news Howard almost lost an eye riding Chads Secret Trail. He was walking up the hike-a-bike section and a branch dominated his face. Luckily it only thrashed his eyelid and not his eyeball. It was soooo gnarly when it happened. Me and Trevor were up the trail and we heard him yelling at us so we went back and found him standing there with blood seeping out of his eye and dripping down his face. It was pretty scary. An emergency room visit and some stitches made him all better.

The Junior MTB Worlds were today. My teammate rob pulled a solid 23rd place finish but besides that the U.S. got pretty dominated. I think it's funny how USA Cycling says they only pick riders who they think are medal capable yet three of the four juniors finished two laps down and in the bottom 1/3 of the field. Awesome. USA Cycling obviously has the whole team selection thing down.

I have alot of racing coming up in the next 5 weeks. Im going to Crested Butte tomorrow and then going to Deer Valley the weekend after that, and then I fly out to the east coast where I will be racing Fitchburg, the New York NORBA, and the Mountain Bike National Championships. It should be a good time.

IRON HORSE 2008

So this past weekend was the Iron Horse. The road race got cancelled because it snowed but at least there was still the downtown crit and tt. The downtown crit is sooo sick. I love the course and its sweet to race in front of the hometown crowd. My race didn't go as well as I would have liked but it was still fun. At least I got to race with the notorious Chad 'chainsaw' Cheney. Check out his sweet areo tuck and stunna shades. OH YEAH!

The TT was pretty fun too. I started right behind Jeannie Longo and she dominated me. Her time was a solid 3 minutes faster than mine. Wow I need to start training if 50 year old women are beating me. Well im gunna go watch all the Indiana Jones movies cuz im awesome like that. Peace out

I just got back from Maryland on Monday and I decided I never want to live on the east coast. Its soooooo weird out there. Anyways the race was pretty fun but I didn't do as well as I would have liked. I was really nervous before the race and could never find my rhythm. Im definitely disappointed with how I did but its not the end of the world. I still have Santa Ynez before they announce the worlds team. Speaking of Santa Ynez im super stoked to head down there. As of right now my plans include camping on the beach for a couple of days before the race so that should be sick. I really love racing on the west coast so I think Santa Ynez should suit me well. This weekend Im going down to good ol' Nathrop to race the Mountain States Cup race. I love racing in Nathrop. Its always pretty awesome down there. Speaking of awesome my friend Marc just got a new tattoo. Check it out

so this last weekend I headed down to Colorado Springs for the Airforce Academy race. There campus is huge, its kinda ridiculous. All the races were really windy and everyone suffered pretty hard. On Saturday night we went to a banquet and listened to Greg Lemond talk. It was pretty interesting I guess. I felt kinda out of place. Everyone was all dressed up in uniform and stuff and I was rocking tight black pants and a hot pink t-shirt with Anna Nicole Smith plastered on the front. It was sweet. Well i really dont feel like typing much but I head off to Maryland tomorrow for the Greenbrier Challenge. If I win this race then I get to go to worlds so wish me luck. I'll keep you updated. So Nova went pretty gooooooood. I shaved myself a dirty new chin strap for the races.

On friday there was a Super D. I had a good race and ended up winning which I was stoked about. Saturday was the STXC which was pretty chill. My teammate rob got off the front and I sat up and did no work. I ended up getting 4th after I crashed into the barrier on the last corner. On sunday was the cross country. I lead the whole first lap and then sat second wheel for half of the 2nd lap until I attacked on a climb. I was able to get myself a 3o second gap that I was able to sustain till the finish. NOVA was my first NORBA Nationals win so I was pretty stoked. Dylan was down at NOVA too. The following pictures pretty much sum up Dylans Life.

Right now im laying in bed kinda sick. I came down with a minor cold on the drive back from NOVA so hopefully that goes away before the weekend. well im gunna PASS OUT

So me and Mitch drove down to Phoenix yesterday after staying the night at Trevor's house in Crestline. It was a pretty fast and entertaining drive. The best part of it was these two bad ass harley dudes hauling ass down the interstate. Look at how big the one on the left is. It was Insane. He kept getting wobbles going 90 mph and I thought he was going to crash.

We also drove by a sick wind farm thing. It was cool. We finally made it to Phoenix and went on a little ride. Im glad to be out of the pollution of LA. That place is gross. Heres a picture of Mitch and in the background is a nice little smog cloud. YUM

Right now im siting in a coffee shop and then later we are going to go hit up a lap of the course in the heat of the day. Hopefully I don't get eaten by a rattle snake. TOODLES

FAWNTUCKEYANNA?!!!

So this weekend was the first NORBA national in Fontana, California. It was pretty sweet. Me and mitch hoke drove up Wednesday and stayed at his friend dorm room in Claremont. On thursday we cruised over to the venue to get our preride on. I almost got dominated a rattle snake. I was going down this decent behind some lady and this huge rattler was in the trail and almost bit her. I stopped and luckily I had my camera and I was able to snap a picture of the bad boy. Here it is.

We prerode Thursday and on Friday I had the XC race. My race was at eight in the morning so I had to wake up at five to get ready. It was rough. My race went pretty good. I was feeling really good off the start and got the hole shot. I lead the whole first lap, but on the second lap some kid from from california caught me and got ahead of me on a climb. I then crashed really hard on the decent and wasn't able to reel him in. I finished second on the day which I was happy about. It was my best ever NORBA National XC result. Here is the Junior Expert Podium.

Sunday was the Short Track which also went good. I ended up winning which was awesome. It was my best Short Track result ever so I was happy. Here is the podium.

CU Crits and MOUNTAIN BIKING!!

So This past weekend was the CU and UNC races. On saturday we went down to Greeley to race and on Sunday we had a crit in Boulder. These were my first races as an A and they were definitely a good experience. I didn't have the best crit in Greeley and I got dropped only about 10 minutes in. I just couldn't accelerate out of the corners as fast as the pack and I got popped off the back. I also froze my ass off. The CU crit went alot better for me. I just sat in the pack and chased down attacks because the German was in the break. I ended up just finishing with the pack. At least I didn't get dropped. Heres a picture from the race.

Today was the first time all season that I've been able to ride my mountain bike. It was SWEEEEEET, but it took me a while to work out some kinks. I had just put on a new chain and it was hating my front chainrings and was skipping all over. I ended up putting on a whole new crankset. After I put the crankset on I pulled out of the driveway and after maybe 3 pedal strokes my chain snapped. I went inside, fixed it, and was finally able to head out on a ride. I rode over to Animas Mountain and rode up it a ways but after about a mile the trail was closed. It sucked. Trevor then called my and we headed down to Phils World. That was sick! I love phils world. Here's some pictures.

Im leaving for Fontana on Wednesday and Im super stoked. I really want to do well. Im feeling fast and I definitely feel like Im coming on form. I'll let you know how it goes. Over and out

FLC Home Race MADNESS!!

This weekend was the FLC home race. It Started out early Saturday morning with a TTT up the valley finishing on shalona right before the railroad tracks. This was probably the coldest ride I've ever done but it was still fun. I was kinda bummed out because one of our teammates forgot his number and missed our start so we only had three riders on our team. The nice thing about having four is that you only have to finish with three so somebody can drop off if they are suffering. Our team didn't really work very well together. One of the riders was kinda suffering and was dangling on the back and every time our other teammate would pull through he would get dropped. Despite not having the smoothest team work we still managed to catch a CU team and we ended up getting third in the B's. I was ok with the result but I definitely could have gone harder. My average hr was only 165 bpm in the TT.

Later that day was the criterium which was horrible. I had the worst possible start. Right off the line I slipped a pedal and dropped my chain. I couldn't shift my chain back on and had to stop and put it back on. I was off the back by alot before I even reached the first corner Here is a picture of about half way through the race. Im the person just rounding the corner in the background.

I was pretty bummed out. I was super stoked to race and I was feeling good. By the end of the crit we had a chase group of about seven people but none of them wanted to work. We ended up getting pulled with about 10 minutes to go. I was disappointed.

The road race on Sunday went alot better for me. The course was super flat and there was no wind. It was a pretty uneventful race. Every attack was covered and nobody was able to get away. There was a fat crash though. I have no idea how I didn't go down. There was this CU kid right in front of me who crossed wheels and fell. I came inches from running his face over and somehow I stayed upright. I think like 5 or 6 people went down but I don't really know. The race ended up in pretty much just a field sprint. I had pretty good position going into the last corner and I ended up getting 6th in the sprint. Heres a picture. Check out my suffer face.

Overall it was a fun weekend of racing. The weather was good and I got to hang out with some friends from other schools. Check out Chris Peterson's new hair style. It's definitely the TRASHIEST mullet I've ever seen!

Most absolutely NOT stoked!

So right now Im kinda not too stoked. Im pretty sure I have patella tendonitis in my left knee. I've had pretty chronic pain in my knee for many weeks now and I researched it today and it seems as if I have patella tendonitis. Im kinda pissed off. I suffered with achilles tendonitis all last season and Im not too stoked to have it in my knee. I think it started when I went down for Tucson and put in a heavy base. Just before Tucson I put on new cleats that had zero degrees of float. I messed around with cleat alignment and I thought I had it pretty good but it may have been off just a little bit. I then rode a ton doing a 30 hour week and I think thats when it started. I didn't really pay much attention to it and I thought the pain was just because of the amount of riding I was doing. Another factor that causes Patella Tendonitis is seat height. My seat on my road bike was definitely a little low and I think that definitely contributed to my problem. So I raised my seat and bought some cleats that allow 5 degrees of float so hopefully my knee gets better. Wish me luck

If what they are saying is true im pretty much just going to go off into the woods and live in a little cabin away from everything. Not really, but seriously watch it. So today I got out on a pretty decent ride. A group of 7 (me, troy wells, adam snyder, jesse dekrey, lee rosenthal, ben sonntag, and someone I didnt know) met at bread and headed out the valley. When we hit shalona I dangled off the back as Troy and Ben and Jesse put down a pretty strong pace. They eventually pulled away and I rode just a little back from Lee until after electra lake when we turned around cuz it was really cold and looking like snow. We rode down, froze, and then climbed Elkhorn road. We then struggled back to town. I could definitely tell that I was sick the previous week. My lungs burned climbing shalona and I had to rip a nasty snot rocket probably every couple minutes. Hopefully my cold goes away 100 percent here in the next couple days. I have a little tingle in my throat right now so hopefully that goes away over night. Well im gunna go watch hot Fuzz and pass out. Click on the picture for a bigger profile of my ride. Peace out

Gnarly is the only word to describe my dad's shoulder after his crash. If he landed any harder im pretty sure he would have straight up broken his collar bone. All because of a stupid little dog. I hate them, I've been chased by little dogs the past three rides I've been on. Its ridiculous.

My cold is finally almost completely gone and I've been able to start training again. Im stoked for the weekend because its suppose to be around 50 degrees. Hooray finally some mildly warm weather. Im soo tired of riding outside when it like 30 degrees out. Well im gunna go for a little spin now. Thanks for reading

I HATE LITTLE DOGS!!!!!

So Im still kinda sick but I was able to go on an hour spin yesterday up the valley with my dad. It was definitely the most ridiculous half valley I've ever done. We had a pretty epic crash. Well my dad did. It all started out with the little punk dog chasing us. Here's how it went down. So we were riding just past the stop sign out on east animas by the gravel pits and this little ass dog ran out of its yard and started running after us. It wasn't a mean dog, it was more just excited and it wanted to come say hi. So we started going faster to get away from the little guy so he would go back home, but he just kept coming. So we were going about 20ish mph and my dad was riding behind me and I stopped pedaling cuz I thought maybe we should just turn around and take the little dog home, but my dad didn't see me cuz he was looking at the dog. He ended up running into the back of me and I tried to speed up and get away but in the middle of my pedal stroke my knee hit his handle bars causing him to swerve violently. And then I look back only to see my day flying over the handle bars landing on his head and back in the middle of the road. It was pretty wild. He cracked his helmet in two spots and landed really hard on his left shoulder. Luckily he wasn't hurt too bad and the only thing that happened to his bike was the front wheel got knocked out of true. It was gnarly. Little punk dogs always seem to cause chaos in the valley for me. One of my more nasty road crashes happened last year for almost the exact same reason. I was distracted looking at this stupid dog on the side of the road and then I ran into my friend and I went down hard. So the moral of the story is that next time a friendly little dog starts chasing you, just stop and pet it. well thats my story for today. peace out.

So this cold pretty much dominated me. Im finally feeling kinda better but im definitely still kinda sick. I havent been able to ride in 10 days. It sucks especially because its warm out and I was suppose to be going to Moab tomorrow, but it looks like that wont be happening. So Im going to head up to Moab on Thursday. Hopefully I will feel better by then. Wish me well

so there is only one word that can describe my current situation, "SUFFERIN". Yeah so I came down with a little sore throat yesterday and then it developed overnight to a pretty fat head cold. Man Im bummed. I had great plans for riding this week cuz the weather finally was good. But no Ive spent the past 24 hours laying in bed sufferin. Hopefully this goes away by the weekend because Im going down to Moab for a week to get my mtb on. Well wish me luck. Oh and another thing thats got me all bummed is the fact that my team for next year looks like a no go. Damn. Well im going to continue laying here untill my tylenol cold medicine kicks in and I fall asleep. Peace out, Benjamin

So its been snowing all day today and pretty much Ive just been sleeping. Its kinda nice to have days where all you do is lay around and sleep. It really helps revamp my energy and motivation. well since I have nothing better to do here are some more pictures from valley of the sun.

Valley of da sun STAGE TRES (3)

so yesterday was the last day of valley of the sun. The stage was a downtown criterium that was pretty sick and wicked fast. I don't think I've ever raced a crit that was this fast. We averaged 27 miles an hour and my average hr was 187 for 40 minutes. Can anyone say suffer?

I had good starting position when i got a spot in the front row but I slipped a pedal off the start and drifted back a ways. From that point on my only goal was to survive. I struggled to hang onto the group every straight away because of the fact that I had to race with junior gears. I HATE junior gears. They don't even make sense. The only thing junior gears do is make me suffer on everything that isn't a climb. So I just ended up finishing with the pack.

Overall im really glad I went down to Phoenix and got my suffer on. I ended up 69th in the GC but oh well. It felt really good riding in warm ass weather. And it was fun just chillin with my homies. Valley of the sun stage 2

So today was the second stage of the valley of the sun. It consisted of 4.5 laps of this loop that totaled 75 miles. Every lap had a really fast gradual climb and on laps 2 and 4 the first person to the top got king of the mountain points. I felt pretty good at the start but by the second lap I got shelled off the back going up the climb. It definitely wasn't my type of climb. It was insanely fast and not steep at all. So after I got popped off the back it took my almost a full lap to catch the group again. I caught the group on a straight away before the climb and I survived the climb on this lap. After we rolled over the top I just sat in until we hit the climb again. I was feeling good going up the climb until there was a fat pile up in front of me and I had to stop. Once again I found myself chasing the group dwindling off the back. I finally caught the group and sat in until the last climb up to the finish. I had no energy for the climb and just rode in just a little off the back of the pack. I was soo glad that it was over. I spent sooooo much time chasing and by the end I had nothing left. I looked at my average heart rate for the day and it was 170 bpm for almost 3.5 hours. pretty rough. well im gunna go to bed cuz im sufferin. PEACE OUT YO

Valley of the Sun Stage 1

So Today was the first stage of valley of the sun which was pretty brutal. It was a 14 mile time trial that was super flat and pretty fast. I Definitely suffered pretty hard but I think I did ok considering it was the first time trial I had ever done. Im not sure what place I got but I'll find out soon enough. The thing bugged me the most was getting caught by 40 year old, 210 pound "Freds" on they $8000 Cervelo P3 TT bikes. It was ridiculous. Hopefully the climb in tomorrows stage is big enough that I can make them suffer.

We got down to Phoenix wednesday after noon and then went and picked up this funny lookin kid (Mitchell aka Michelle) at the airport. We are staying at a pretty chill hotel on the interstate but it kinda suck because we have to pay for internet. Now thats just dumb.

SOOOO MUCH SNOW

WOW there is sooo much snow outside. So today I woke up and looked out into my back yard and this is what I saw.

I couldn't believe how much snow we got. It was insane. So after a bit of shoveling I walked into our living room and found my cat sprawled out in front of the fire. He was stoked on life.

So today it started snowing around 10ish and it still hasn't stopped. It made for perfect sledding conditions, so me and Alex Howard packed up the sleds and headed up into test tracks to shred the fresh pow. We built a sweet jump on the trail mountain dew, a really steep chute just a little ways into test tracks, and then rallied it. I defiantly packed it a couple times really hard but oh well, it was still a good time. As much fun as this snow is, I would really like it to melt. I want to ride my bike. Not only do I want to ride my bike but I want to ride a bike like this one! Check it out

Aztec rocks my socks

Today I did a ride down in Aztec with my dad. I like it down there because its soooooooo much warmer than durango. Its insane. The roads were dry and diddnt have much traffic and I even rode without a hat or ear warmers. It was probably min 40's. I suffered today. I was struggling to get my heart rate up and I felt like I could just pull over on the side of the road and fall asleep. It was rough. I think it was because of the fact that I didnt drink any coffee this morning, and because I played 2 hours of touch football last night. Im going to be pissed if it snows tomorrow. I want to ride. Check out this sick bike lawn mower thing. I think im going to make one. Peace out

JEEEEZUS I HATE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to be back in Tucson!!

Well its snowing outside and I just shovled a ton and now im wicked bored. So far my winter has been purdy sick. Ive been able to ride alot. This winter was my first real season doing base and its been alot of fun. I never thought I would enjoy riding long slow miles but I do. Its kinda peaceful just cruzing along listening to music or a SICK book on tape. If you havent tried riding while listening to a book on tape you are missing out.

I went down to tucson for a couple of weeks and got some long miles in. It was pretty sick riding in warm weather. The only bad thing about Tucson is all the old people, crack heads, mean drivers, and tool golfers.

Well im tired of writing and I might actually try to update this thing some but i dunno. Oh yeah check out this sick picture of probably the coolest person on the face of this earth.
